St Arnaud – reprise
So, still owe the Internet the really beautiful hike we did halfway round the lake and back via Whiskey Falls. Here we go. Why not roundtrip, you’re asking? Well, because that would require you to walk from St Arnaud to the Mt Robert carpark – we did that bit a few years ago, it’s quite a stretch and not particularly great. Also, I could not be bothered to organize a shuttle, so we just hike back the same way. Still very beautiful. Of course, I need to circle back to our decision to call off the multi-day hike … what you need to understand is, that I’m not a real man. I don’t have any tattoos, I don’t beat my wife, I don’t eat meat, I don’t drink alcohol, I don’t smoke. So a fucking loser, obviously. If I’d only had tattoos, then I’d happily pitched my tent at 1700m in gale force winds and heavy rain of course. So sad, so embarassing. If you see me, hit me or shoot me, I’m a disgrace, really. Should have gone to Bogan university back in the days. 😀
We also did the Mt Roberts Circuit – in not so great weather, but still definitely worth it!
Anyway, we were back in St Arnaud for two days, meeting up with two friends from Berlin. This time not staying at the Alpine Lodge, but at the rather more upmarket Woodman’s Den – highly recommended, a beautiful chalet! Just the right place to celebrate the Reisebegleitung’s Birthday!!! 🙂 It also has a hot tub outdoors, which is great if you’re happy to stay completely submerged, otherwise the sandflies will suck you dry … . I like Nelson Lakes NP – the weather is mostly crap, there’s tons of sandflies – but the scenery and hiking is fucking fantastic!
