Morteratsch Gletscher, Berninafälle, Pontresina, Stazerwald
Holy shit! Just when you think it can’t get any better, you turn a corner and see that massive Glacier range, illuminated by the first rays of sunlight, in the foreground a frozen forest and semifrozen river. Fucking beautiful! 🙂 Took the bus to „Morteratsch Abzweigung“ and walked down to Morteratsch station – do this instead of taking the train, there’s some fantastic viewpoints along the way, including the one in the title photo. A little side trip to the side took me to the mostly frozen Bernina Falls. Back down and into the Morteratsch glacier valley. What a massive panorama – surrounded by mountains, walking towards the glacier, slighlty uphill. Total piece, only your boots crunching on the snow. Walked back out and took a left before the crossing the train tracks – that way takes you to Pontresina, like the other „official“ routes, but far away from the road. A relaxed track mostly parallel to the railway through a nice, quiet, snowy forest. From Pontresina a slight detour through the Stazerwald with a bit of an offroad shortcut back to Celerina. Absolutely beautiful!
