04 Sagres – Vila do Bispo
Where there’s sunshine, there’s rain.
We had already explored the coast around Sagres on our rest day and we didn’t feel like walking besides the road for 8km,so we took a taxi to Cabe São Vicente and started our hike from there. The Cabe is much hyped but physically disappointing. I get the geographical and cultural connections, but apart from that, nothing to see. The lighthouse is closed off and not accessible, so instead of exploring the lighthouse and museum, we took off straight away. Disappointing. Even more that nobody seems to know about the closure. When we were walking away, two buses arrived and these folks were also left standing before closed gates. Hmm.
Anyway, fuck culture, enjoy the outdoors. The first kms were wonderful again, breathtaking coastal views, wonderful cliffs. Telheiro Beach is a true highlight, wonderful colours and great atmosphere.
Unfortunately, that’s it. The (long) remaining stretch to Vila do Bispo is supremely boring. I guess that’s different in spring, when everything is blooming and flowers abund, but at this time of the year? Waste of time. My advice: spend an extra day in Sagres, explore the cape and Telheiro Beach and skip the rest of this leg.
