Section 11: Alajeró – Barranco de las Cocos – Playa de Santiago

Woke up in the morning, looked out of the window, and saw the neighbours‘ cat staring back at me. Looking very hungry and expectant. Bad luck, my friend. 😀

This was a relatively short and purely downhill section, so nothing compared to yesterday’s labours. The descent through Barranco de las Cocos is nice, lot of palm trees there. Unfortunately, that’s about the only green you’ll be seeing on this stretch, in fact on the whole coast. At least in November, supersuperdry, might be different in spring, dunno. At the end, you get nice views of „La Gomera Airport“ and Playa de Santiago before descending to the little village. Everything is owned by Fred Olsen of course. Not sure, did not really warm to this place, but can’t say why. I had originally planned to spend 2-3 nights here to chill out at the end of our trip, but you have to book for minimum 5 nights … so, we waited for a bus for the better part of one hour, then gave up again and got a taxi do drive us back to Santiago. After looking at the completely bare and dry cliffs we didn’t feel like hiking this last section, that would have been too boring. Especially after the fantastic barranco yesterday. So it was back to the Parador for the last 2,5 days – and clean clothes waiting there for us.
