03 Salema Beach – Sagres
One of the longest stages, also one of the most rewarding. Majestic cliffs, fine beaches, sun, wind, and waves. Another great stage, one of my faves so far! We took a little shortcut, you can walk from Praia da Figueira to Praia das Furnas on the beach if the tide and conditions are right. We had no issues and I’d say that in calm conditions you can easily make it three hours left and right of low tide. It also shaves off 4-5km off your track. đ And, you get to see the majestic cliffs from below, can see the different strata up close. Around Furnas beach, there’s also a bunch of cool caves, here low tide is definitely a good time to visit.
To top it all off, our hotel was also extremely nice. Wonderful spacious room, almost a suite, with two balconies, good design, super comfy, ocean views, good breakfast, great location. What’s not to like? We’ll definitely be back, than you, Hotel Memmo Baleeira Sagres. đ It was also our rest day, so we got to spend two nights in this lovely place. Sagres is a nice little town, too. The Fortaleza is probably a bit overhyped, but there is enough other stuff to do and see, plus really good food, also for the veggies and vegans amongst us. The restaurant at the Memmo Hotel is quite good, has creative veggie and vegan dishes that I very much appreciated. Also good pizzas! Speaking of pizza, Arte Bianca is also very good. There’s also a supposedly nice ice cream place in town but they were closed both days. đ Shocking how can they afford to refuse so much revenue? đ
