05 Vila do Bispo – Carrapateira

Vila do Bispo is not very exciting. We stayed at the Hotel Mira Sagres, which was ok but also offered the bleakest hotel room I’ve ever seen. But clean. On the plus side, there’s a fantastic restaurant in town, one of the best on this trip, especially for folks who don’t like to kill or rape animals. Pisco is the name of the place and you should definitely eat there, it’s worth it. Creative menu, great cooking and service, just lovely!

The first few kms leaving Vila do Bispo are very boring again, along the road or through fields, but soon enough you hit the coast again and life is good! 😊 There are mushrooms, spiders, giant unknown insects, cliffs, beaches, and the impressive penis rock!

Carrapateira is a tiny village and most places were closed for the low season (or permanently). Luckily, there’s the Micro Bar right in the central square and they do good, fresh food, lots of veggie options and great salads and cakes as well. The only accommodation we could get was at the hostel and I didn’t sleep that night. The bed was horrible and the walls paper thin, you could hear every detail that happened in the toilet next door… Also, there’s no breakfast in Carrapateira, unless your accommodation provides it. The Reisebegleitung had an OSM bar that was leftover from our NZ trip earlier this year and I had a glass of water, and we were off pretty early.
